The best months for business travel to Argentina are April through November. Argentine businessmen usually take vacations in January and February, during the Southern hemisphere summer season. Foreign businessmen should be aware that some business firms close for a time (usually two-three weeks) during this period.

The Argentine businessman is a frequent traveler; therefore, if you wish to see him, it would be advisable to inform him well in advance. It is best to avoid business travel to Argentina during the two weeks before and after Christmas and during the week before and after Easter.

Business hours for commercial operations vary, but generally are 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Government offices open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Banking hours are 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Appointments with bank officials outside regular banking hours frequently can be arranged.

A prior appointment for a business call is normally necessary. Business cards in English are acceptable but cards in Spanish are preferable. Spanish is the language of the country. English is spoken by a limited but growing number of people, particularly among the businessmen and professionals. Italian, German, French and Portuguese are also spoken by a good number of people.

The Argentine peso ($) is the basic monetary unit. Tipping is a must at airports, hotels, restaurants and wherever personal services are involved.

The Metric System is the official standard for weights and measures.
